Somerville Conservation Commission Continues Draw Seven Hearing to February 3

Conservation · Meeting of January 27, 2026

Somerville Conservation Commission continues Draw Seven park hearing and braces for major stormwater outfall review. The commission, chaired by David Turin and staffed by Conservation Agent Malik Drayton, continued an order-of-conditions amendment for Draw Seven Park renovation to February 3 after the applicant's representative failed to appear at the January 27 remote meeting. The panel spent most of the session reviewing community garden operations with coordinator Cindy, who reported all plots are full and a centralized wait list covering roughly 265 to 285 plots is due for its annual email renewal cycle; a proposed Brickbottom community garden remains exploratory.

The commission also previewed the February 24 Notice of Intent hearing for the city's Mystic River Outfall Separation project, which would install a 78-inch stormwater pipe near Assembly Row and is projected to cut combined sewer overflow volume by 77 percent, with commissioners flagging the likely loss of buffer-zone trees and damage to the Blessing of the Bay Meadows restoration as key concerns. Turin reported four candidates are in the pipeline for two commission vacancies, with an interview process now underway through the city's Appointments Advisory Committee.
