Somerville Conservation Commission tables its annual community garden session and hears compost pilot update. The commission voted unanimously at its February 24 remote meeting to defer the full garden program discussion to March, after Conservation Agent Malik Drayton said gardeners had received conflicting scheduling information. Kate Bossingham, Environmental Policy Manager in the Office of Sustainability and Environment, presented plans for a public compost giveaway at Glenn Park Community Garden, linked to a curbside food waste pilot now serving roughly 280 of a targeted 1,200 eligible households in East Somerville.

Chair David Turn reported that the Community Preservation Committee awarded approximately $74,000 to Buddy's Diner, less than the $500,000 figure cited in recent press coverage. Drayton said four names have been forwarded to the mayor to fill two long-vacant commissioner seats, a step that could bring the seven-member body to full complement for the first time in years.
