Planning Board · Meeting of September 17, 2026

SOMERVILLE — The Somerville Planning Board voted 7-0 to approve a special permit and site plan for a residential project with commercial space at 8 Medford Street. Chair Michael A. Capuano presided as the board also continued hearings on 222-22 Broadway and a five-unit apartment proposal at 6 Wheatland Street, both pushed to October 1 after staff said applicants had not submitted complete materials.

At 6 Wheatland Street, attorney Adam Dash said the outstanding issue was "mostly ticky tack" bike-parking configuration details still pending with the city's Mobility Division. Member Coralie Cooper told the board she had counted "at least 50" on-street resident parking spaces near 8 Medford Street, supplementing the applicant's case that nearby garages, including one at 481 Columbia Street an eight-minute walk away, could serve residents' parking needs.
