Somerville preservation panel revises CPA calendar, fixes $4,000 error

Other Committee · Meeting of April 22, 2026

Somerville's Community Preservation Committee reports $7.1 million spent last year and unveils an earlier grant calendar for fiscal 2027. Chair Ryan Kirikhoff presided as administrator Roberta detailed $6.6 million in surcharge revenue last year, rising to a projected $7 million this year with over $8 million expected once state matching funds are included. Eligibility forms now come due May 15 and full applications July 15, both earlier than in recent cycles, with council recommendations targeted for November or December.

Committee member John Bronnenkent said the long-sought Art Farm project is nearing 100 percent design drawings, while Davis Square's Paul Christie floated the city-owned White Church at 46 College Ave as a future application. The committee also voted 6-0 to transfer $4,000 to its historic preservation reserve to fix a lingering debt-service shortfall tied to the West Branch Library.
