Somerville Condo Review Board approves conversion permits for nine properties, splits over developer intent question. The board voted unanimously on eight of nine applications at its June 29 remote meeting, but divided 2 to 1 on a preliminary rental conversion permit for 15-17 Oak Street, with Board Member Tassoulis casting the lone dissenting vote against the application of Hope and Prospect Development LLC, represented by Attorney Mark Sheehan. Tassoulis cited a September 2025 Historic Preservation Committee filing in which the applicant described plans for four new dwelling units while tenants were still in residence, arguing the developer's $3.6 million mortgage on a $2.3 million purchase made rental intent implausible.

Chair Zasloff acknowledged the concern but said the board must "operate within the confines of the oath that we took" absent tenant testimony. The board also unanimously approved a final conversion permit for all six units at 12 Pleasant Avenue, acquired by Somerville Community Land Trust to preserve permanently affordable homeownership. Staff announced the condominium conversion application fee increases to $800 per unit effective July 1, 2026, and the July 27 meeting has been canceled due to quorum conflicts.
