Somerville Climate Panel Reviews 49 Applications for New Board

Other Committee · Meeting of April 28, 2026

Somerville's Interim Climate Action Commission logs 49 applications for its expanded board. Environmental Policy Manager Kate Bossingham told commissioners the pool spans all seven wards, includes seven applicants who own or operate a Somerville business, and splits 34 renters to 13 homeowners, though formal review awaits new citywide standard operating procedures for boards and commissions expected within a week. Director Stephen Nutter said the applicant mix roughly mirrors the city's population.

Commissioners also raised alarm over the state Energy Affordability Act's proposed $1 billion cut to the Mass Save program, which Bossingham called "pretty ill-advised," and heard Sustainable Week returns May 2 to 8 with six events, including a Mossland Street block party and a Glen Park compost giveaway.
