School Building Facilities and Maintenance Committee · Meeting of October 7, 2026
Somerville's School Buildings, Facilities and Maintenance Committee closed out several routine items and pushed a tile-safety debate to November. Director of Infrastructure and Asset Management Raish told the panel the Massachusetts School Building Authority's Facilities Assessment Subcommittee backed the city's 925-seat preferred design for the new Winter Hill and Brown schools at 115 Sycamore Street, with a full MSBA board vote expected October 28 and a debt exclusion vote likely between summer and fall 2027. Raish also described chipped exterior tiles at Somerville High School, saying contractor Sunrise will install custom metal restraint brackets, work that "will carry into spring." Chair Laura Pitone apologized after realizing the tile item had been omitted from the posted agenda, asking to revisit it "to avoid a violation of open meeting law." The committee also closed out items on Edgerly Education Center air conditioning, Argenziano School security upgrades, and Kennedy School snow-clearing communication, voting 2-0 (Saeed, Link) to adjourn and approve September's minutes.
