Climate Panel Elects Leaders, Creates Three Subcommittees

Climate Action Commission · Meeting of October 13, 2026

Somerville's Climate Action Commission elected new leadership and organized into three subcommittees. Members unanimously chose Larry Yu as chair and Rithika Phillip as vice chair, then voted to form Buildings and Energy, Engagement and Outreach, and Accountability and Data subcommittees tied to the city's Climate Forward Plan. Staff liaison Kate Bossingham told the 13-member commission that 12 seats are currently sworn in and that the ordinance sets quorum at a simple majority, seven members, limiting how many commissioners can gather informally without triggering public-meeting notice rules.

Commissioner Sierra Moll reported that "33 percent of all of our sticker votes went towards building and energy topics" in a September brainstorming exercise. No clerk was elected after no one self-nominated for the position. The commission also discussed drafting bylaws and relocating its November 10 meeting to Tufts' Davis Square building.
